Mzekala Balkan Ensemble with Balkan Allspice

Mzekala performs vocal folk music from the Balkans and Eastern Europe. We are a group of six fierce women singers and one cool guy with a drum. The group has been singing for over 30 years in Tucson. Many of us first discovered Eastern European music in the vibrant folk dance community so our repertoire includes many dance songs. We look forward to sharing our joy in these songs and providing you brief introduction into the many strands of this broad tradition. We are accompanied this year by the instrumentalists of Balkan Allspice on bagpipe, clarinet, accordion, drum, and strings.
