Mariachi Tesoro de Tucson

Mariachi Tesoro was founded in 2006 by Jaime Valenzuela as a community youth ensemble. The organization rapidly became a staple within the Tucson’s musical arts scene performing at local cultural events. Under the direction of Dr. Alfredo Valenzuela, the original members comprised of students from Davis Elementary and members of Mariachi Las Aguilitas. The ensemble underwent a period of inactivity in 2013, but in January of 2019 the ensemble renewed its mission. The current incarnation includes members with experience at the most upper echelons in spheres of mariachi performance and education.

Mariachi Tesoro’s vision is to promote Mexican & Mexican-American culture across the Southwestern United States at the highest level. Every member plays an active role as cultural anchors and leadership for younger generations in the Tucson community. Mariachi Tesoro’s members have substantial experience as educators, holding local teaching positions as well as providing instruction at international mariachi conferences. They stand as a testament to the power of engagement in the traditional art form of mariachi as a vehicle towards higher education.

With a deep commitment to the mariachi traditional in all of its symbolic and musical complexity, Mariachi Tesoro delivers energetic performances through avante-garde arrangements of highest musical caliber. Combining dynamic, youthful personalities with seasoned experience, Mariachi Tesoro humbly presents their performance for your thoughtful and esteemed consideration.
