Maira Ramos – Handmade Drums

I was born in Puerto Rico and as far back as I can remember, I have always loved the sound of drums from all cultures. I became intrigued with making my own drums and after I attended workshops I was able to make round frame drums and gourd drums. I fell in love with making the gourd drum. The beauty and uniqueness of the markings drew me in and I honor that by not painting over them. I now make drums, rattles, and shekeres from gourds and decorate them with leather, crystals, and feathers. I am honored to share my story and instruments with you.
