Kathi Huhtaluhta is a vocalist/composer of Finnish/Sami heritage. She has written, composed,and performed music in other languages including Spanish, Finnish and Turkish. Huhtaluhta means (the meadow) in Finnish. She has her own unique style of “yoik” and plays guitar and drums. Working with U.N.I.C.E.F. and the United Nations, Huhtaluhta collaborated with artists from around the world and formed the group World Winds, comprised of musicians who play folk-based music with elements of jazz in traditional and contemporary music. Their repertoire highlights Nordic sounds and compositions including vocal “yoik” or chants, guitar, bass, keyboard and drums and illuminates the unique and moving music and culture of the Sami or “reindeer people” from Northern Europe.
