Louann Shannon is a registered member of the Tohono O’Odham Nation from the village of Ak-Chin in the Gu-Achi District of the reservation. Her mother and grandmother were both basket weavers, and she is grateful to carry on that tradition. She’s been weaving since the age of 8, and finds great joy in creating. Her baskets have sold throughout the United States and other countries. They have also been displayed in the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. Shannon has also done demonstrations and workshops for the Smithsonian museum. She currently weaves small plates and vases, lidded baskets, bolo ties, earrings, and larger, more intricately designed plates.
