Pascuala: Baskets and Cello

I went through the Miss Pascua Yaqui pageant this past September. For the pageant they judged me on, I had to make a dozen tortillas handmade without a rolling pin on the fire. I also had to make a traditional dish on the fire. I made nopales, or cactus. And I had to do a traditional talent. I’m half Tohono O’odham and I did a presentation on traditional basket weaving. For my modern talent I played my cello.

My greatest joy is playing music. I play the cello in an orchestra and I also play the violin in Mariachi. I like music a lot. I love doing concerts. When I get to play, it feels really comfortable. I play classical music on the cello. I love Bach. I go to Tucson High where the orchestra is really good. My greatest disappointment is probably whenever I don’t try my best in something and I feel like I didn’t give it my all. Because I like to give it my all.
