I’m Peruvian, but I was raised here. I came here when I was four years old.  My family had a Peruvian restaurant for five years. It was called Irene’s. It was downtown. It flourished for a long time. My favorite dish is papa a la huancaina, potato with a special sauce made with egg, chile amarillo, and spices.

My heritage is Celtic and Nordic, so that means that I’m Welsh, Scottish-Irish, and Norwegian and Swedish. My great uncle was a ship captain on the South American, a ship that took passengers across Lake Michigan from Michigan to Milwaukee. I love traveling. I’m hoping to go to Spain next year. I love anything that’s Latin American or Native American, and that’s why I live here. I wish there were festivals like this all across the United States so that people would accept each other and not fight with each other. Because we’re all beautiful in our own way.
