The ultimate street dish, Koshary, is Egypt’s national dish – and for good reason. This accidental vegan meal is an incredibly amazing jumble of rice, pasta, lentils, crispy fried onions and chickpeas – finally topped off with a vinegary tomato sauce. We are excited to be bringing back this savory and satisfying vegan dish to TMY. We’ll also have a couple of additional Egyptian delights on offer; basbousa – a sweet semolina cake and karkade, a refreshing drink that is both tart and sweet! All of our items on offer are vegan as well.
KOSHARY (Vegan), $6: An amazing jumble of rice, pasta, lentils, crispy fried onions and chickpeas, topped off with a vinegary tomato sauce.
KARKADE (Vegan), $3: Hibiscus Juice. This is a sweet and tart drink that has some similarity in taste to cranberry.
GHORAYEBA $3 : This dessert could be described as the shortbread of the Middle East without the crunch. The classic Egyptian type is flavored with nothing but ghee, resulting in a not-too-sweet cookie with a delicate texture that just melts in the mouth. This dessert is traditionally served during celebratory events, such as Eid, so wewanted to introduce it to the festival this year as a celebratory nod toward the reemergence of TMY 2021 in its fuller form!
