Miniature Horse Hair and Yucca, Bear Grass Basket with Shell necklaces, Horse Hair w/ Beads and Horse Hair Earring. Miniature Yucca & Bear Grass Baskets. Beads & Shell Necklaces and Earring
My name is Rosemarie Ramon, I am from Covered Wells Village, of the Gu Achi District on the Tohono O’odham Nation. I started weaving Horse Hair at the age of seven and fifteen I started weaving Yucca & Bear Grass. I learned how to weave from my Mom “Geneva Ramon-Acosta”, my Dad “Late Arnold V. Ramon Sr.” and grandmother “Late Anita M. Ramon”. I have been weaving for over 35 years, I have shared my weaving experience and stories with my children, grandchildren, family and friends.
When I started weaving, I weave just to weave because it was fun, then later on at a young age I weave to buy my own school clothes, shoes and supplies. As I grew a bit older my weaving excelled to where I was making Miniature Designed Baskets such as Man in the Maze, Coyote tracks, Whirlwind Baskets.
I have shared my weaving by teaching young O’odham children at one of the locals schools, having workshop at Tohono O’odham Community College and also being a guest speaker and demonstrator in several O’odham Studies Program (Classes) for TOCC & U of A and different Festivals in The Southern Arizona Area.
Weaving is great blessing not only for me, for my child, grand children, family, friends and community to share our traditional aspect of weaving and pass it along to our younger generation
