The Kolencia Oficio “Discípulos de San Luis” will build a traditional Yaqui ramada and share stories about Yaqui ceremonial life, showcase the various elements of the Pahkola regalia, and answer questions from the public. On Sunday, they will enact the deer dance blessing (a rare public event outside of Yoeme tribal settings). For the Yaqui people, the dance and the deer head (Maaso Koba) is a deeply spiritual event rather than entertainment. The deer symbolizes goodness and well-being, coming to offer itself for the people. Accompanied by traditional water drums, cocoon-shell leg rattles, and maso bwikam (deer songs), the dancer connects the physical world with the spiritual realm and the ancestral Sewa Ania (Flower World).
NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED.
