Filipino American Student Association (FASA) and the Golden Lotus Vietnamese Dance Team perform together to showcase traditional dances—such as the Philippine Tinikling bamboo dance—celebrating Asian heritage in Tucson.
Tinikling is a popular folk dance originating in the Philippines. Inspired by the movements of birds dodging bamboo stick traps, farmers created a rhythmic dance out of jumping and spinning between long poles. This dance is often paired with a traditional string instrument called the rondalla while the sticks clapped against the ground create the rhythm.
